An interesting read, but I think your conclusion that men have problems too so that must mean patriarchy doesn’t exist is greatly oversimplified. Women AND men can suffer under patriarchy, a system based on unequal distribution of power, in which women are suppressed while men take the lead. Many men do not want this power and suffer from societal expectations imposed upon them. But patriarchy is thousands of years old and dismantling it is not something you can just do overnight. So while men might also increasingly feel like patriarchy doesn‘t serve them, the patterns of this system are so ingrained and so omnipresent in our daily lives, it‘s impossible to escape them.

Many of us, males and females, are socialised to adopt binary gender roles – but does that mean women are inherently complicit with patriarchy? If you are the disenfranchised party and you play along the rules, you are doing it to survive in a society, and not necessarily because you agree with the system.
