Hi Barry, thanks for taking your time to read and respond to my article! I agree with you: gender displays are absolutely the reflection of how society conceptualizes women. But don’t forget that life imitates art — I truly think that since we are surrounded by these gendered images since birth, we do internalize gender roles as the “natural order of things”. That’s why so many women, many of whom are feminists, will repeat the patterns of visualising femininity as they have seen in art and advertising and eventually incorporate them into their everyday life. Moreover, we reinforce these patterns by portraying ourselves through the male gaze when we take selfies, pose for the camera, etc.
